The Subtle Shifts of Seasonal Change — What to Notice as Summer Turns to Fall

As summer’s heat begins to cool and the first crisp mornings of autumn appear, nature quietly reminds us: change is happening. Ayurveda calls this seasonal transition Ritusandhi — the sacred juncture between two seasons, when our bodies and minds are most vulnerable to imbalance.

🍂 In Nature

Leaves begin to dry and fall. The air shifts: lighter, cooler, and more unpredictable. Days shorten, nights lengthen. Nature lets go of excess.

🌿 In the Body

You may notice digestion weakening, a tendency toward bloating or dryness, changes in appetite, or seasonal allergies creeping in. This is the residue of summer’s fiery Pitta colliding with the onset of Vata’s cool and windy energy.

🌀 In the Mind

Restlessness, anxiety, disrupted sleep, or racing thoughts may become more common. Just as the winds blow outside, the mind can feel scattered within.

Awareness is the first step. Once we recognize the patterns in nature and ourselves, we can begin to realign. This is where Ayurveda’s wisdom shines: instead of fighting change, we learn to flow with it.

✨ In my upcoming Navratri Workshop, we’ll explore how this seasonal reset isn’t just physical: it’s spiritual. Navratri, which falls right at the heart of this transition, is an opportunity to release what no longer serves us and set new intentions for the season ahead.
